Exif information in multi-page tiff images

Added by Georg Sommer almost 10 years ago

Does Exiv2 support reading exif information out from tiff multi-page images (each page includes it's own exif information) , too ?
Thanks in advance
Georg

Hi Georg,

Exiv2 is not good at multi-page TIFFs. If the image has only two or three chained IFDs, you might be able to use it, but the tag names (group names) will be strange, for more pages it won't work.

I've actually hardly seen any such TIFFs. Could you attach or send me a few to use as samples and for testing?

Hi, Donna.
I have never tried the multi-page tiff image processing tool you mentioned above but I have ever tested the free trial package of another multi-page tiff images processor( http://www.yiigo.com/guides/csharp/how-to-process-tiff.shtml ). It worked well, and the site( http://www.yiigo.com/guides/vbnet/how-to-process-image.shtml ) also offers many other image processing tutorials for users to check. I am considering to employ its formal condition to help me with the related work. Do you have any ideas about it? Or any good suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Arron

EXIF stands for "Exchangeable Image File Format". This type of information is formatted according to the TIFF specification, and may be found in JPG, TIFF, PNG, JP2, PGF, MIFF, HDP, PSP and XCF images, as well as many TIFF-based RAW images, and even some AVI and MOV videos.

Not sure whether Exiv2 can do the job or not. I have also been asked to read, write EXIF image information, including TIFF tags, GPS tags. Tried by using an online TIFF imaging tool.

Hi there!

Any advance in relation with this issue? I would like to be able to determine how many sub-images are contained in a multi-page TIFF image. This is becoming a common scenario in the "Drone/UAV world" where we have cameras integrating different sensors.

Right now I'm using the GDAL GeoTiff driver for obtaining that information (It seems that they use libtiff internally, and TIFFReadDirectory for reading each of the IFD related with each sub-page). But I was wondering if it could be possible to obtain that information with exiv2.

Best regards,
Luis

No work has been done on this matter. I recommend that you raise an Issue for "Multi-page tiff image support" and reference this discussion. Without a volunteer to work on this, nothing can be done on this for v0.26 which is scheduled to ship about April 2016. When an issue is open, it will be reviewed periodically. Regrettably, a discussion thread like this is simply forgotten in time.

I've set the target to 1.0 which means it is on our back-log and will be scheduled for a future release. Because of other commitments, this cannot be included in v0.26.
