Trouble on/with the Tag Reference pages

Added by Steve Wright almost 10 years ago

http://www.exiv2.org/metadata.html
now brings up a http://w1.whatcounter.com dialog asking for a Username and a Password. It does likewise when one clicks a link for one of the particular tags, labels and schemas. If I didn't know any better, I'd say Andreas just forgot to renew the hit-counter service account he uses for those pages.

There's nothing wrong with the pages themselves; they're all still readable. It's just annoying to click from one to another and have that dialog come up at every turn.

That's bad. Can anybody confirm this? I can't reproduce it here. (The hit-counter service is free and seems to still work.)

Hi!

I can confirm this, I experience the same thing. See attached screen shot.

Andreas,

Is there any chance you could check with whatcounter.com to see what might have happened to cause this change? I suspect they had a database crash or something, and lost (or dumped) any number of important account preferences. I shouldn't think that you would be able to reproduce this as, even if you cleared your cookies, they (whatcounter) would still know you by your IP or at any rate the DNS it deciphered as.

Thanks Anders for confirming that this does happen.

I'll remove the calls to the counter with the next release.

I hope that's soon. 0.22.0 is already 6 months old (as of today -- count on your fingers from September to March).

You're right, it's overdue now.
