... but is this the "Art" version of the lens? My impression from the initial report is that it was not.

If I read these lines in the forum message correctly it is the "Art" version:

I'm am the happy owner of this new lens (the successor to the "Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM" which is still being marketed...) -in Canon mount. This also being refered to as "Sigma 50mm F1.4 Art", ...

The lens used in the test file from the forum message is reported as "Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM | A" by the current svn trunk version of exiv2.

OK, great. I wanted to be sure there wasn't a non-Art version of this lens with the same ID.

OK, great. I wanted to be sure there wasn't a non-Art version of this lens with the same ID (as apparently with 169 "Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM" and "Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM | A").
