Bug #842
Samsung NX100 camera generated JPGs warning
0%
Description
When I run exiv2 -pt on a camera generated JPG, I get some warnings:
Sample:
http://files.pcode.nl/temp/SAM_0640.JPG
$ exiv2 -pt SAM_0640.JPG
Warning: Directory Samsung2, entry 0x0000 has unknown Exif (TIFF) type 0; setting type size 1.
Warning: Directory Samsung2, entry 0x0000 has unknown Exif (TIFF) type 0; setting type size 1.
Exif.Image.Make Ascii 16 SAMSUNG
Exif.Image.Model Ascii 16 NX100
...
Also (on a sidenote), the GPS info, seems to return garbage if no GPS unit is attached (I don't have one):
Exif.Samsung2.LocalLocationName Ascii 36 ...
Exif.Samsung2.LocationName Ascii 36 ...
Maybe some kind of sanitization is in order?

Sincere apologies that this has not been investigated. We are getting ready to release v0.25 and I'm going though Redmine looking for unresolved matter. Better late than never.
Can you attach the test file to this issue report and I will investigate.

Will this wasn't a critical issue. But more a nuisance. I don't have the original sample handy.
But looking online (I don't own the following images):
http://img.photographyblog.com/reviews/samsung_nx100/sample_images/samsung_nx100_04.jpg
from http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/samsung_nx100_review/sample_images/
http://img.photographyblog.com/reviews/samsung_nx300/photos/samsung_nx300_22.jpg
from http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/samsung_nx300_review/sample_images/
In the SRW you'll also find some more fields with garbage appended:
http://img.photographyblog.com/reviews/samsung_nx300/sample_images/samsung_nx300_15.srw
like
Exif.Image.Make
Exif.Samsung2.FirmwareName
Presumably the data after the zero terminator is being printed?

Deferred to v0.26. Insufficient time to deal with this for v0.25.

I'll have a look at this in the next week. I want to finish v0.26 in June and I'm sniffing around at odds'n'ends that haven't received attention.

Regrettably, I have to defer this again. I've put in around 1200 hours of effort to get to code complete v0.26 and closed almost 200 issues. Regrettably, there are only 5 or 6 issues on which I have not worked. This is one. Deferred for v0.27.
