For some JPEG image "UserComment" hangs is not being extracted. As a result no other meta-data that comes after is extracted.

I’m not sure I’ve understood this issue. Can you provide a file and command line that fails every time. Try to avoid reporting issues that: “sometimes crashes” , or "sometimes fails”. Let’s get the issue solid and reproducable.

Can you also provide platform/version information. Please run this command: 

$ exiv2 -vV -g svn -g version -g date -g time
