Metadata in OpenExr

Added by fab mic almost 13 years ago

Hi,
There are some metadata in exr files. (http://www.openexr.com/)
For instance, in this project,
http://sourceforge.net/projects/djv
you can find that for the sources related to that format, that djv
reads and write metadata.
Are there any plan to add support for exr files ?
Best Regards,
Fabien

Fabien,

I have already check OpenEXR support for digiKam as photo format, especially because it support lossless wavelet compression of image data. But duing it lack Exif, Iptc, and Xmp, and because i cannot found relevant informations about metadata supported, i left this idea.

Do you have any fresh informations about ?

Note: Look like ExifTool do not support openexr...

Hi Gilles,
My only information are the ones from ILM website.
I just saw in a paper and djv code that there are some tags in that format.
I have heard that the tags are up to the developer, so maybe it would be possible to define
tags in exr in the same way as Exiv2 : "Exif.Image.ImageWidth" for instance.
I know that it is supported natively by nvidia, and is the standard format for high dynamic range imagery.
So I was thinking that it would be nice to have some kind of support in exiv2 for it.

Fabien,

I have take alook in djv code. metadata from OpenExr lack a lots of informations. Current standard are not enough to preserve all releavant informations for photograph: Exif, Iptc, and XMP.

It will be better to save whole metadata byte array in dedicated tags, exactly like we do with PNG. Like this nothing will be lost.

If i work to integrate OpenEXr in digiKam/Exiv2 as photo archive format, this is the way that i will follow.
